What has Dakota County's testing found?
In 2005, a total of 68 wells were tested for nitrate and agricultural pesticides. Nitrate, pesticides, or pesticide breakdown chemicals were detected in the water from 56 of the 68 wells (82%). Concentrations of nitrate, pesticides and their breakdown chemicals, or both, exceeded safe drinking water guidelines in 15 of the 68 wells tested (22%).
At Dakota County’s request, the Minnesota Department of Health assessed the health risk for wells with multiple contaminants. This cumulative assessment found nine of the wells had sufficiently high levels of contaminants to be a health concern..
What can I do to make my water safe?
The Environmental Protection Agency has found that a reverse osmosis treatment system with a thin-film composite membrane and activated carbon filters can effectively remove the types of contamination found in private wells in Dakota County, if the system is maintained appropriately. Sediments and naturally occurring chemicals, such as iron, can interfere with a filter system’s capacity to remove nitrate and pesticides. Additional units may be required to improve the filter system’s functions and provide backup safety. A water treatment company can install a system for lease or purchase, or you can purchase a system from a home improvement center and install it yourself. To ensure clean water, any water filter system should be ANSI certified and installed, operated and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Now with a system designed by Dakota Water Treatment, their toilet bowls are white, there is no color to the water and the water no longer smells like rotten eggs.
This Lakeville homeowner had his builder install a system in his new home. After two years of dealing with iron staining and a rotten egg smell to the water they called Dakota Water Treatment.
This customer upgraded to our Aqua Mag Irrigation System to eliminate iron stains on his home, sidewalk and driveway.

Sediment Seperator:
A vital component in well treatment is a good pre-filter.
This is an example of our sediment separator with by-pass valve. A pre-filter is necessary to filter out large particulates, sand and debris before it enters your iron filter or water softener.
A quality pre-filter will greatly improve the performance and life of your equipment.

"The compounds are of concern because they do not break down in the environment and they accumulate in human blood. These chemicals don't behave like anything else on the planet."
Mary Dominiak, perfluorochemical coordinator for the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Can a water softener take care of my iron problems?
If you are experiencing stubborn iron stains on tubs and fixtures, yellow stains in laundry, a greasy film in toilet tank or a rotten egg smell to water...most likely a water softener will not be enough. Many water treatment dealers, plumbers, and well drilling companies will recommend just a water softener only to find manganese and iron will bleed through ruining the softener, leaving you with iron stains on tubs and fixtures and stained laundry.
