Does one size fit all?
No, one size does not fit all. This is why many people who buy a softener from a department or home improvement store are disappointed with their water softener. When considering a water softener, your water treatment professional should ask you a series of questions to determine which model and size are right for you and your water type. Be cautious of water softeners with 1 year warranties, expensive service call fees and those designed to last about 3 years.
What is Hard Water ?
Hard water is water that contains dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium which produces scale...and are difficult to clean. If there are stains or build-up on your fixtures, sinks and bathtubs...If you have to use large amounts of soap to clean dishes or wash your hair...or if your water smells or tastes bad, you probably have hard water. If left untreated, the minerals in hard water will cause yellow stains on plumbing fixtures and be deposited as scale, eventually clogging plumbing and shortening the life if appliances like washing machines, water heaters and dishwashers. Scale deposits not only cut down on the efficiency of these appliances, they cost you money, increasing both energy and maintenance bills.

Why is my Water Hard?
Most water supplies contain more than just water. Almost all of the water in the U.S. is hard water. Hard water is water that is contaminated with dissolved minerals like calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, lead and limestone that can have a negative impact on you, your household and your pocketbook. Depending on where you live, contaminants from sewage, industrial waste and agricultural run-off can also seep into your water supply.
Water Softeners eliminate the effects of hard water.
Water Softeners "soften" the water by removing the calcium and magnesium found in hard water, extending the useful life of water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, humidifiers and household plumbing by as much as 30%.

Soft water is water free of hardness minerals. When you water has hardness the soap and detergents curd with the minerals leaving a film on your skin, hair and fixtures. This film can be very drying and irritating to the skin and scalp not to mention makes cleaning difficult.
With soft water the soap and detergents rinse free leaving only your natural oils giving your skin and hair that slippery or silky feeling.
